Wolves Blog: Chupa Chups Massive – 19.05.10

One of my match day rituals’ is to take a couple of lollipops with me to games. Depending on how long a lollipop lasts is usually an accurate reflection on the importance of the game or the entertainment level on offer.

Take the beating of Albion at Molineux last week; my strawberry Chupa Chup, my lollipop of choice for many a year, lasted barely 10 minutes before it vanished!

It’s my way of handling the nerves; some may chew on their nails; I take the Chupa Chup route.

Loaded with an entire bag of my favourite sugary sweets, I’ll head to Molineux this weekend a bag of apprehension as we face the do or die game against Blackburn.

I’ve had the same unerring feeling these last couple of months that for whatever reason, Wolves will be in the Premiership again next season. All those spectacular wins against the top clubs, coupled with those last minute mistakes that have cost us so dear, have made for another captivating season watching the men in gold & black.

And neutrals will love the fact that there is so much riding on the final weekend of the Premiership campaign, when any two of five clubs could join West Ham for a season of mediocre Championship football next season.

But like me, most fans of those five clubs in peril could probably quite easily do without all the excitement. And like me, many will be keeping up-to-date with events elsewhere using radios, the web and anything which might keep them abreast of scores in the other four games.

I made the mistake of relying on other people for info when I travelled to Hillsborough for the last game of the season in 2002. About 8,000 of us travelled to Sheffield in a vain hope we could catch the Baggies in 2nd after going on an abysmal run of results. The whisper in the crowd went round that the Albion were losing at home to Crystal Palace which was of course wasn’t true.

I vowed from then that I would always have the tools on hand to be informed on events elsewhere, rather than having to rely on some drunken numpty to feed me a pack of untruths.

Even with Man Utd’s C team out on Sunday, I can’t see Blackpool grabbing anything and the same hopefully goes for Wigan at Stoke and Birmingham at Spurs. However, I’d be amazed if either Blackburn or Wolves will play for the draw and rely on the other teams doing them a favour.

I think the bottom three will remain as they are, but nothing would please me more than seeing Blackburn drop out of the Premiership, especially for there shocking treatment of big Sam Allardyce back in December.

I think Wolves can make it three back-to-back wins in the top flight, something they haven’t achieved since the days when I was probably the right age to consume a lollipop.

UP THE WOLVES!
