Wolves vs Sunderland 2-1 – Fan’s Analysis 10.05.10

What a way to finish the season. Before yesterday’s game, Wolves were the only team in the Premiership not to have won a game after going a goal down.

And I think many of us were expecting a typical end of season stroll from both teams, but I’m glad to say we were proved wrong.

It was a nervy start to the game from Wolves and Sunderland deserved to take that early lead. But that goal seemed to settle Wolves down and the first half was end to end stuff, with more shots on goal than we have seen for a while at the Molineux.

Wolves stamped their authority on the 2nd half and seemed to be much fitter than the tiring Wearsiders who looked to be struggling with the high tempo of the game.

The entertainment factor was definitely helped with the switch back to 4-4-2 and with the impressive Adlene Guedioura looking to bomb forward at every opportunity.

Stand out men for me were Ebanks-Blake coming back into form, Jarvis finishing the season with a flourish and terrace favourite Zubar showing incredible hunger in the last game of the season.

But it was fitting that the last word went to man of the match Guedioura who Mick has now thankfully snapped up before he goes on to have an impressive World Cup with Algeria.

After finishing the season averaging a point a game – the players fully deserved their lap of honour. Many have punched above their weight and many probably won’t be here next season, but nearly all have played their part.

Bring on the 2nd Premiership season, we all know it’s going to be tougher than this one, but the signs at yesterday’s game were that we shouldn’t fear anybody.

Can we improve on a final league position of 15th next term?

Well done Wolves and thank you for a brilliant season.
