Wolves vs Spurs 1-0 – Fan’s Analysis 11.02.10

Out of darkness cometh fight!

This was a galvanized Wolves team that not only stifled the majority of Spurs creativity but also passed it patiently especially in the first half, looking for an opportunity to strike.

As badly as Spurs played, Wolves proved the pessimists wrong, including me, and put in one of their best performances of the season.

Dave Jones goal was a thing of beauty with umpteen passes and a sublime volleyed finish.

Player of the season, Kevin Doyle was again a one-man attacking machine, ably assisted from the flank by the ever improving Matt Jarvis.

And when Wolves didn’t have the ball they defended brilliantly, with Jody Craddock solid as a rock.

But for me, the man of the match award, and a huge reason why we won this game, has to go to Adlene Guedioura.

I haven’t been alone in being ultra-critical at our lack of business in the January transfer window. But credit where credit is due, Mick may have discovered something in Guedioura.

Signs are that we may finally have our box-to-box midfielder. He tackled, his passing was accurate and he wasn’t afraid to take on a player or two and head for goal. He fully deserved his standing ovation and if Mick has any sense, he will make him a permanent fixture in the middle of midfield alongside Henry.

The one negative from last night’s game was the referee, Mark Clattenburg who may as well have donned a Spurs shirt for all the good he was to Wolves.

Glenn Hoddle, Jimmy Greaves, Ricky Villa, David Ginola, Ossie Ardlies, Martin Chivers and Teddy Sheringham, we have beaten them all. Alan Sugar, can you hear me? Alan Sugar, your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!
