Unless Wolves suddenly decide that they are going to pay wages and transfer fees on a par with the rest of the Premiership, then Saturday’s game was a little glimpse into the kind of football that will be returning to Molineux next season.
Mick even said that any team in the Championship would have been thrilled to have a side such as the one he put out against Palace. Honestly, he should be a stand-up comedian!
Morale and confidence is obviously rock-bottom at the moment and that wouldn’t have been helped when Palace struck early doors.
But after Jones well placed shot got Wolves undeservedly back into the tie, you thought that Mick would have been brave enough to ring the changes at half time.
Mick decided instead to play the waiting game and Wolves were punished straight after the break with Ambrose’s well taken free kick.
Finally though, just after the hour, the cavalry arrived in the form of Doyle and Mujangi, who both injected some much needed purpose and quality into Wolves play.
Mujangi looks like a tricky little customer, full of pace and guile and he must surely be in Mick’s plans for Tuesday night’s crunch game against Liverpool.
With the forward line finally clicking, it was terrific end to the game and I think Zubar’s belter was just rewards for some fine Wolves endeavor and on balance a draw was a fair reflection of the game.
With seven changes though, I’m not sure Mick really thinks deep down that we have a chance in this year’s FA Cup.
I would like to have seen one or two fewer changes, and who knows, a thumping cup victory might have sent the club into a real high for Tuesday’s game.
