I’ve never been as happy to hear KC & The Sunshine’s ‘Give it up’ as I was on Saturday after Ebanks-Blake deft header ensured Premiership football next season.
It was another game woefully short on entertainment, something I think the majority of the crowd probably expected, this was all about grabbing a result by hook or by crook to edge closer to that safety line.
Blackburn definitely had the best of it with a couple of shots off the woodwork but Hahnemann will know he should have done better with the corner which led to their goal.
But just shy of eight hours without one, the Molineux crowd was finally able to celebrate a goal and I don’t think it could have been scored by a more popular man.
That goal will do wonders for Sylvan’s confidence and with Burnley losing to Liverpool, Premiership football is now finally secured for another season, so perhaps Mick will switch to a more attacking 4-4-2 formation for the final two games to accommodate him.
I wrote in my blog this week that a pitch invasion would be a ridiculous way to end this game, especially when we hadn’t yet mathematically secured our Premiership status.
And it was quite depressing to see parents proudly taking their kids onto the pitch, watching some people snatching mementos of Molineux turf and then going over to berate the Blackburn fans, which was just bizarre.
Combine this with the mindless fighting outside the Steve Bull stand with the opposition fans and it really was a horrendous end to what should have been a joyous day.
All that aside though, what a magnificent achievement for Mick and the boys and now its time to start planning for next season and looking forward to that big party at the racecourse after the Sunderland game.
