Mick must enjoy the taste of claret as that’s three times in a week it seems to have gone down rather easily.
It was obvious that Gianfranco Zola’s team was nervous from the outset and a confident Wolves team beat them at their own game with neat, incisive passing all over the pitch.
I too was nervous when I saw the front two starting for the Hammers were Carlton Cole and Benni McCarthy. But I needn’t have been, as it seems the two of them were having a battle to see who could put in the most anonymous performance.
I think Benni just edged it! And to compound the Hammer’s misery, Cole clashed with disgruntled fans after the game and Zola might wonder if he will still be in charge when Stoke visit the Boleyn Ground on Saturday.
But from back to front, Wolves were magnificent. David Jones has established himself as the lynchpin of our midfield and with Kevin Doyle and Matt Jarvis; the three of them pose a real attacking threat every game.
Wolves simply had more quality, more endeavor, more energy and more belief than their opponents and from Foley rattling the bar in the early stages, it looked like there was only ever going to be one winner.
And it was game over by the hour mark with Jones and Jarvis again linking up to devastating effect as Wolves scored three for the first time this season.
We now have an identical league record on the road as Liverpool and better than their Merseyside neighbours Everton, who will hopefully be our next victims at Molineux on Saturday.
It’s just a pity the Intertoto Cup isn’t still in existence, because this survival lark is getting easy and I’m beginning to think that Mick and the boys need a new challenge!
