Villa vs Wolves 2-2 – Fan’s Analysis 22.03.10

A point gained or two points lost?

On balance you would say that point was a fair reflection of the game and I would have bitten your arm off if you had offered me a point when Villa went one up early doors.

The Wolves team at the beginning of the season would have probably capitulated after going a goal down.

But even with the odd player out of position, the Wolves team of today is far more resilient and it just shows the difference playing a settled team makes.

Villa looked one dimensional up front with Carew and Heskey and their usually solid defence was given a torrid time by Doyle, Jones and Jarvis.

Karl Henry had a solid performance with two fantastic goal line clearances and I thought Jarvis probably caught the eye of the watching Fabio Capello more than anything in claret and blue.

Man of the Match, Dave Jones has made the creative midfield slot his own and his dribbling and set-pieces caused Villa problems all afternoon.

I think my only criticism was that we allowed Villa too much time and space just in front of our back four, something we have done too many times against the better teams in the Premiership.

But criticisms can be shelved after a performance like that. Yes, the first Villa goal was offside but Martin O’Neil will probably feel slightly aggrieved that they didn’t get the penalty right at the death with Berra’s clumsy challenge.

So on to see if we can hammer West Ham tomorrow night. I’d like to see a place back in the starting line-up for Milijas to give Guedioura a rest with Everton in mind.

I was born under a Wanderers scarf!
