Hull vs Wolves 2-2 – Fan’s Analysis 1.02.10

It was probably written in the stars that Stephen Hunt would pop up with a goal in this game, it was just a shame he was wearing a Hull shirt!

The match was a typical relegation dogfight; low on quality but high on passion and endeavor.

From Gardner’s calamitous own goal to Zubar stupidly trying to get a piggy back on Altidore’s back, the game had it all.

Wolves fought back from a first half where they were outplayed to slowly impose themselves in the 2nd half. And as Hull began to run out of steam, we nearly snatched it at the death with Mujangi Bia’s fierce struck shot

As with the Liverpool game, the creativity came from the usual suspects; Jarvis and Doyle, with David Jones occasionally chipping in with one or two nicely threaded passes.

Obviously this Wolves team is still adjusting to the new 4-1-4-1 system, but if we have some success in the transfer window and bring in Jason Roberts or another striker, will Mick revert back to playing two up top?

Playing again just in front of the back four, Mancienne looked like he was often caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, not knowing whether to press forward or stay deep and scrap with the Wolves defence.

And although Doyle was again our star performer, I worry that he is working that hard in that isolated position up front, that he could quite easily pick up an injury.

To be behind twice and come back for a point that keeps us out of the bottom three, shows this team’s incredible tenacity.

If we could just get a little more quality and creativity in the final third, then the ultimate prize of another season of top flight season could be closer than we all realize.
